Developing best management practices for road development works is another area of expertise for Revegetation Contractors. The company recently trialled erosion and sediment control measures to inhibit erosion occurring on the sides of a major road through a wet tropics world heritage area.
The trial included:
- backfilling and reshaping existing areas that had been eroded;
- re-establishing a defined drainage system to ensure the road side runoff ran safely into the existing creek system; and
- stabilising the drainage system using a number of products and techniques.
The 26 trial areas trialled a combination of products and techniques, including reinforced turf, enkamat, geoweb, rock placement and hydromulching. Log placement was utilised on road side verges above culverts.
